Raja Ferry services to Donsak depart from Lipa Noi Raja Ferry Pier in Koh Samui and Koh Phangan Ferry Port in Thong Sala. Both bus and minivan services to Surat Thani Airport depart from a bus station near the turning from the main road, more than a kilometre from the ferry piers themselves.

Idon't know about Surat Thani, but I've taken the Lomphraya ferry from several times from Chumphon to Koh Tao recently and it was a catamaran and very smooth. I also went from Koh Tao to Koh Samui and it was also a catamaran and just as smooth. Perhaps the speedboats were a stop-gap measure when demand was very low due to the pandemic.
